How to replace an old Telstra or Optus phone system with a cloud phone system

Short answer: check your contract, list the numbers you want to keep, and have a local provider port the numbers and install the new system on site. In South East Queensland, WiseCloud does this for $29.95 ex GST per unlimited line, with free number porting, no lock-in contract and nothing to pay until it's installed and working.

Quick answer: You can replace an old Telstra, Optus or on-premise PBX system without changing your phone numbers. WiseCloud Technology, an authorised 3CX Partner with local teams on the Gold Coast and in Brisbane, Logan, Moreton Bay and the Sunshine Coast, ports your numbers at no extra cost, installs the new cloud phone system on site and cuts over with no downtime. We also serve Ipswich and Redlands.

Step 1: Check your current contract

Before you switch, check whether your current provider has a lock-in period or early-exit fee, and whether there's an outstanding balance. Some carriers require the final bill to be settled before they release a number.

Step 2: List your numbers and how calls should flow

Write down every number you want to keep (your main line and any direct lines) and how calls are answered today: who picks up first, what happens after hours and where overflow calls go. We use this to design your IVR menu, call queues and ring groups so the new system works the way your business already does.

Step 3: Work out how many lines you need

WiseCloud charges per line, not per user. A line is one simultaneous call, and every staff member gets their own extension, mobile app and desktop app at no extra cost. As a rule of thumb, you need about one line for every 3–4 staff who use the phone. For example, a 10-person office needing 4 lines pays $119.80 a month ex GST, versus $299.50 at $29.95 per user. See per-line vs per-user pricing.

Step 4: Decide on handsets and internet

Your team can use the free mobile and desktop apps, bring compatible IP handsets, or choose new Yealink desk and DECT phones. A cloud phone system runs over your internet connection; if yours needs an upgrade, WiseCloud's Business NBN is from $94.95 a month ex GST with a static IP.

Step 5: Port the numbers and install on site

We handle the porting paperwork with your outgoing carrier at no extra cost. Our local team then installs the system at your office, sets up the handsets, tests every line with you and cuts over with no downtime. We work with your IT provider, builder or electrician so the phones and internet work on day one.

Step 6: Pay only once it's working

Nothing is payable until the system is installed and working. There's no lock-in contract, and you can start with a free 2-week trial.

No. WiseCloud has no lock-in contract, and you can start with a free 2-week trial.

Who installs the new phone system?

Our local team installs it on site. We set up the handsets, port your numbers and test every line with you, and we work with your IT provider, builder or electrician so the phones and internet work on day one.
